The trend

−0.2 kg

a week

An illustration with made-up readings. The line is drawn by the same trend calculation the app uses.

Your scale is not lying. It is just noisy.

Body weight moves by a kilogram or more from one morning to the next for reasons that have nothing to do with progress: water, salt, the time you weighed in, what is still being digested. Read day by day, a good fortnight can look like a bad one.

Nala Tracker draws every reading as a faint dot and puts a smoothed trend line through them. The trend is the number at the top of the screen, and your weekly change is measured from it. A high morning nudges it by a fraction; a real change shows up in a week or two.

That is the whole idea. Everything else in the app is there to support it.

Questions

Why is it so cheap?

Because it can be. Nala Tracker is made by a small independent company in Denmark with no investors to repay and no sales team to fund, and it runs on one modest server. $0.99 a month covers that and leaves something over. The low price is the business, not a promotion.

Is there a free version?

No, and there will not be. There is one version with everything in it, and new subscribers get a 7-day free trial to decide whether it is worth a dollar. Cancel before the trial ends and you are not charged.

Is this a weight-loss app?

No. It is a tracker that starts with weight. It shows you what is actually happening, whether your goal is to go down, go up or stay where you are. It does not tell you what to eat and it never comments on your body.

What exactly is “the trend”?

An exponentially weighted moving average: each new reading nudges the line a little, and older readings fade gradually rather than dropping off a cliff. A single high morning moves it by a fraction, while a real change shows up within a week or two. Change per week is measured from the trend over the last fourteen days.

What happens to my data?

Your weigh-ins are stored on your iPhone and synced to our server in Germany so they survive a new phone. We never sell them, never use them for advertising and never send them to an analytics company. You can export everything or delete your account from inside the app. The privacy policy has the details.

How do I cancel?

In the app, Settings → Subscription opens Apple’s own subscription screen. You can also get there from the Settings app on your iPhone: tap your name, then Subscriptions. Apple handles all billing, so we never see your payment details.

Does it work without a connection?

Yes. Logging and every chart work fully offline. Anything you log is synced the next time your phone is online.

Is there an Android version, or Apple Health sync?

Not yet. The first version is iPhone only and does not connect to Apple Health. Both are candidates for what comes next, and subscribers decide the order — see the roadmap.
